Masterworks Volume 3

Masterworks Volume 3

Masterworks Music have a long history of releasing high quality re-edits and Disco House tracks from a wide range of producers around the globe. Their new instalment is no different with volume 3 coming out in early August 2018 for the Summer season.

Label owner Danny Worrall AKA 80'S Child as he is better known has put out a fine selection of tracks with some of the hottest producers in the Disco scene to date. The stand out tracks for me here are reviewed below.

The opening track by The Funk District called Funky joint which is an uptempo affair full of big brass and funky guitar licks complete with larger than life vocals. Not quite sure of the original version but this is an all out assault for the dance floor.

Lux Experience pulls a smooth boogie jam out of the bag with a slick piece of bouncy funk that has a cool uplifting vibe to it. Kellini and the track Dagstar is a very cosmic soulful vibe which has some lush pads throughout and a great percussive feel to it. A track I like a lot to be honest, and if you are into the early 80's space disco flavour like myself then do check this one out.

Chew Rubs has put a different spin on things with a Disco Reggae jam at a slower tempo which brings a nice balance to the album, a very funky jam that struts through with ease. Pete Le Freq has his late night smooth track in there entitled "The Flow", which is a lush dream like affair. I can imagine playing this at 5am, complete with saxophone and rhodes loops.

H.P Vince and Dave Leathermann have hit the nail on the head with their rendition of Oh Honey by Delegation which is one of those warm soul records and has all the trimmings that I like such as Rhodes licks and blippy sounds on top of analogue synth bass lines. Here they have added their touch to it and have done the original justice. My stand out track on the whole album.

80;s Child himself has a track on here which is a slower affair and a more raw funk track which chugs along nicely complete with all its original flavour. A straight out of the box edit.
Dr Packer who has been at the top of his game this past year or two with releases on Defected has put forward his contribution with a mid tempo funky piece in his usual trademark style that we all love.
Chuggin Edits has taken the bull by the horns and done a solid uplifting Disco track that is an instant floor filler.

South Beach Recycling have a superb track on here also with a smooth track that has taken all the elements from a great soul/disco record. Complete with lush harmonies and real strings which is all one needs for dancing to on those hot summer nights.

The one thing I like about this album is that most of the tracks have used alot more obscure samples as opposed to the obvious stuff. Clearly producers have been digging deep into the crates for lesser known records, and have turned them into fresh compositions, which makes a nice change for the edits scene. A good piece of work by Masterworks Music and its definitely worth checking out some of these tracks for your DJ sets this Summer.
