ROLAND CLOUD SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW

Ever wanted to have access to the vintage synths that keyboard manufacturer Roland have created since the 1970's ? Well now you can in this exciting cloud service that they have unleashed into the producers world.

Cloud services are becoming ever more popular due to the nature that most producers can no longer afford big hard ware synths and may have to settle for replica VST versions. This is something that Roland have cashed in on, and to great effect also.

You can now rent out their large and ever growing vintage synthesizer range right on through to their anthology collection which is a massive host of synths dating back to 1985 up until 1993. These are accompanied by the vintage collection which are almost everything they have produced as hardware since the 70's.

The price for this service is only £18.95 UK sterling. So in Dollars that would be $26.94 and in Euros it is 21.75 at the time of writing. So a small sum to pay for a vast goldmine of classic sounds and drum machines.

However I see that at the time of writing they have offered a 30 day free trial period followed by a fixed rate of $19.99 US Dollars so that is a perfect deal.

The list is as followed.

ANTHOLOGY SERIES
1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1993

These are a selection of synths that have been recreated from the mid 80's up until the early 90's where a host of pre-sets are added and in turn you can alter them and sculpt your sound to fit your production. These synths really have some fantastic sounds which can find their way into any type of genre.
In order to use these classic sounds you have to download the Concerto plug in which is very straight forward and run them through this. Whereas the classic synths such as the 808 or the 101 you just run them as separate third party plug in synths.

THE LEGENDARY SERIES
VINTAGE SYNTHS & DRUM MACHINES

There are many replica VST synths of all the classic Roland products from the early 80's but now they are here in their official form. Using the original pre-sets and all of the effects and exact on board setting for the hardware versions, this package is the absolute cream of the VST world. You really do get value for money in this set alone for the amount of classics you can use at the click of a finger. So available in this brilliant set of synths are the following keyboards and drum machines.

TR-808 DRUM MACHINE
TR-909 DRUM MACHINE
JUNO 106 SYNTH
JUPITER 8 SYNTH
JV1080 SYNTH
D50 LINERA SYNTH

THE AIRA SERIES

These two synths in this package are very powerful plug ins with all of the capabilities of vintage hardware combined with a futuristic sound. The System 8 synth has Analoque Circuit Behaviour modelling allowing you to sculpt your sounds in a very creative fashion.
The System 1 is the VST version of the hardware release and comes with all of the standard settings for you to alter such as the LFO and the effects combined with a wide range of pre-sets which can add a whole new palette of sound to your tracks.

THE ROLAND FLAVA SERIES

This small selection of customised sample pre-set packs are ideal for those of you who wish to create a specific genre. However only four of these are available at the time of writing but I am certain that more will be in the making in the coming months.
These are basically synths that have purpose designed pre-sets so you can produce a track that is inspired by the Retro Wave genre or you can produce more Techno styles. They are a nice addition to the subscription.

In order to gain access to the subsciption, all you have to do is download the cloud service application to your desktop and then once that is installed you just select which synths you require. All you have to do is choose a directory folder for the VST files which is usually the same ones as the others you would download and then install them there and refresh your VST folder. I am talking in terms of how it works on Ableton, but I am certain it is the same for every other DAW.

They have made it very simple and easy to operate and for a small fee you can access to the greatest synths on the planet. If you stop paying the serial license stops working and then when you pay again you get them back instantly. Very simple and very good value for money. So go check it out by clicking the image below or one of the series images above.
You could also watch the synths in action with the video Waxadisc created to demonstrate its full potential. Enjoy.
