Black Riot Records

The brand new offspring label from the world famous Disco imprint Midnight Riot gets off the ground with its first release from Buckley & Mickey Oliver. Black Riot Records which takes its name from one of Todd Terry's legendary projects hits the ground running with an absolute retro house corker. Six tracks in total which kick off with a cover version of the classic Ralphi Rosario track from back in 1989 called Rendition which was originally released on the Hot Mix Five label.

What Buckley has done is maintain the minimal raw flavour to the track with the simplicity of the drum patterns and the main riff that is as rugged as you can get, There are no thrills here as the track does exactly what it sets out to do, just a classic House track that has been covered and rather than aim for the contemporary approach it has paid its dues to the traditional sound from that era. The Jaegerossa remix carries that early 90's New York sound with dub like vocals and a smooth arpeggio synth that layers itself suitably well, and would not sound out of place on the Nervous Records label.
Severino completes the trio with his lush deeper vibe of the track with some sweeping chord pads that chop up very well and a very solid bassline throughout whilst keeping the main vocal present.

Mickey Oliver hits out with his track Just A Tease, that delivers a very rounded deep bassline, again a nice minimal style with a vocal that could easily fit into an early Chicago House production.
The Hypnotic Lovers remix is a sublime production with a style that is reminiscent of the Naked Records catalogue from the early 2000,s.
So overall a well crafted first release for the Black Riot label and certainly one to look out for in 2017.
